SHAKIN` ALL OVER (Philip Chan and The Astro-Notes)

From Wikipedia: Philip Chan Yan-Kin (simplified Chinese: 陈欣健; traditional Chinese: 陳欣健; pinyin: Chen Xinjian; born 25 January 1945) is a Hong Kong actor, film director, producer, screenwriter and music composer of Taishan area origin. Philip first made his popularity in the then British Colony of Hong Kong by being the lead vocalist for the first all-Chinese college pop group, “The Astro-Notes” (taken after the Astronauts representing the US and the Sputniks representing the USSR during the space race in the early 60’s. He became a household name when he joined the Royal Hong Kong Police in 1965 by displaying courage and leadership in solving several sensational, major crime cases in the British Colony, including the first ever armed bank robbery in 1974 in which 11 hostages were held at ransom. He was nicknamed the “Singing Inspector” when he wrote the lyrics and went on TV to promote road safety for school children. His success in police work earned him a quick promotion to Superintendent of Police in 1975.

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE (Teresa Carpio)

From Wikipedia: Teresa Carpio is a Hong Kong English pop and Cantopop singer, actor and singing teacher, born in Hong Kong. She is the mother of singer T. V. Carpio. For several years from 1975 onwards Carpio had her own TV variety show in Hong Kong, on which she performed both solo and with several of her siblings. She released many albums in Hong Kong from 1976 onwards; her early releases under EMI such as the EMI's "Sound Hit" series on vinyl record. Eventually six of her album under EMI went gold, in which she featured cover versions in English of western hits, including an album with George Lam. She made numerous television appearances in Hong Kong, in the late 1970s. Carpio was the first and the youngest Hong Kong singer ever, to appear on national TV, in Japan. She has performed in many other countries as far apart as Singapore, Malaysia, Tahiti, Brunei, the USA and Canada.

YOU DON`T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME (Irene Ryder)

From Shatinterry (Youtube): Irene Ryder is a Eurasian born in HK of an English father & a Chinese mother. In 1966 she attained the unofficial title of 'A-Go-Go-Queen' from a dance talent contest when she earned her fame. Irene was then approached by Vic Cristol of EMI & start her singing career in 1967. The first single recorded was 'To Sir With Love', but it was not until 1969 when she recorded 'Baby, Baby' with Robert Lee, Irene established her fame as a singer. Irene's first LP was 'Irene' in 1973 when she was named 'Top Female Vocalist of the year'. However her singing career came to a stand still when she had a near fatal accident in 1979. In 1998, as a result of popular demand.after recording four duets with Joe Junior, Irene returned to the recording studio to do her own album 'The Legend'.

Danny Diaz & The Checkmates were three Filipino brothers with their brother-in-law (Romeo is married to Christine Samson, the one-time singer and bassist with D'Topnotes). They formed in Hong Kong and had a major hit "It's So Easy" in 1966. The group's big break came when they beat out the other top acts like Teddy Robin & The Playboys and The Mystics in the Levi's Battle Of The Bands held in the Hong Kong Football Stadium in 1969. They went to the UK and made a few recordings out there including "Solomon Grundy", 1969 UK). They disbanded in 1982. Danny Diaz stay on the pop scene as a solo act.

Anders Nelsson has been a part of Hong Kong's entertainment scene for over 50 years, starting in school bands in his alma mater, King George Vth School, and going on to practically all aspects of the industry. His first professional singing performances were with The Kontinentals, and he continues singing, composing and recording to this day and is currently working on a new collection of songs for release in 2011/2012. He has acted in countless episodes of Chinese TV dramas on all Hong Kong's TV channels, including CTV, RTHK, RTV, ATV and HK-TVB and has recently been discovered by TV stations in China. His first and most famous acting job was in the Bruce Lee film Way Of The Dragon, in which he played a thug in a back alley, and recently he was invited to play the role of Lee's headmaster in the biopic Bruce Lee, My Brother. Behind the scenes he has worked as a journalist writing about entertainment, music publisher, and as A&R Manager at EMI (HK) Limited in the 1970s and Managing Director of BMG Pacific Limited from 1989 to 1992. Nelsson has been working as a radio DJ since winning several DJ contests while still a teenager, and currently works for public broadcaster RTHK. He also DJs 'live' and acts as Master of Ceremonies for events of all kinds. He currently runs his own Anders Nelsson Group of Companies, working with music publishing, event production and sourcing of products for the entertainment industry. In 2010 he celebrated 60 years in Hong Kong and in 2011, his 65th birthday.

Joe Junior, real name, Jose Marie Rodrigues born on 22/7/1946. He was from a Portuguese family in Macau and moved to HK where he was born & grew up. Ever since 1963, when Joe Junior became one of the top winner of the New Star Talent Contest and formed his first band with The Hunters and later D'Topnotes, the singer in him, has never look back. Joe's biggest break with his new outfit 'The Zoundcrackers' was when they were spotted by a producer of Diamond Record Co. during their debut performance as the supporting act of The Searchers concert in HK in 1965. After some members changes & left Zoundcrackers,Joe formed his new band Jor Junior & The Side-Effect. Starting with his first album 'Once Upon A Time' in 1965, Joe enjoyed almost ten years of both critical and commercial success which included 'Here's A Heart', a huge success, remaining in the No.1 spot of RTHK Top of The Pop Chart for seven consecutive weeks. Joe suffred from a major set-back in the 80s & early 90s, when Disco music & Karaoke dominate the pop scene, Luckily Joe had a successful return with the recording of 'Memories of the Sixties' in 1996.
